Attorney Paul Kurtzhall Makes Immediate Impact at The Ryan Firm

Paul J. Kurtzhall is a relatively new face at The Ryan Firm, but he has established himself as a key member of the firm in a short period of time. Since joining the firm in 2024, he has provided clients with swift results that consistently exceed expectations.

After assisting with the prosecution of capital murder cases with the Gang Unit of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office during law school, Paul began his legal career at a local firm in Orange County, practicing business litigation.  Paul brings experience in employment and labor, business, contract, bankruptcy, construction, collections and appellate law with him to The Ryan Firm.

Since joining the firm, Paul has worked on numerous complex matters. One notable case involved a citation issued by the City of Los Angeles against a client for failure to register a property in foreclosure with a penalty of $100,000. Through strategic negotiation and with a deep understanding of the municipal code, Paul successfully reduced the penalty to just $150—an outcome that builds on The Ryan Firm’s history of effectively contesting municipal fines.

In another significant case, Paul represented a lender seeking to foreclose on a high-value property in Malibu. The former owner, along with several individuals acting in concert, filed eight separate bankruptcy petitions across four different jurisdictions to delay the foreclosure sale. Recognizing the abusive nature of these filings, Paul obtained an order for in rem relief, allowing the foreclosure to proceed. Paul also reported the misconduct to the U.S. Trustee’s Office, resulting in sanctions against the debtors for their misuse of the bankruptcy system.

Additionally, Paul represented a client who acquired real property at a foreclosure sale. Following the purchase, the former owner recorded fraudulent instruments against the property, attempting to cloud title and prevent its resale. Paul filed a quiet title action to clear the encumbrances and preserve the client’s ability to sell the property. Through a successful motion for summary judgment, Paul secured a quiet title judgment in the client’s favor, overcoming the former owner’s continued efforts to interfere with title.

Paul has also done excellent work in our appellate practice, providing invaluable contributions to recent appellate filings.   You will enjoy working with Paul, should you have the opportunity.

In his relatively short time at the firm, Attorney Kurtzhall has also shown himself to be a key member of The Ryan Firm’s appellate practice.

In his free time, Attorney Kurtzhall cherishes the precious time with his wife, April, and their four children, who are growing up way too fast
